Getting Ready for Oral Sedation

Be Prepared

If you suffer from dental fear or dental anxiety or from another condition that has qualified you for sedation dentistry, being prepared and knowing what to expect before, during, and after the appointment can help you avoid further anxiety. Very often, fear, doubt, and apprehension are derived from a fear of the unknown. When you do not know what to expect, your imagination can take over and transform something simple and innocuous into something frightening and painful. By preparing for your upcoming appointment beforehand, you take control of the situation.

Have a Plan

Once you’ve scheduled your appointment at Fresno Dental Studio, go home and, using a notebook, planner, or whiteboard, write down your plan of action for before and after the appointment. Yes, it may feel silly at first, but being able to refer back to your plan when you start to feel anxious or uncertain is a proven method for staying calm. With your plan in hand, you can better manage the time before your appointment so you don’t end up feeling rushed, or stressed. Finally, writing down your plan gives you a tangible goal – namely going through with your appointment and enjoying a healthier smile because of it – for you to focus on.
